Paul Franklin, Executive Vice President, Programming
Paul Franklin was named Executive Vice President, Programming, Shine America in February 2012.
Franklin is currently responsible for the creative oversight of Shine America’s un-scripted slate of series, including The Biggest Loser, MasterChef, Tabatha Takes Over and The Face. He reports to Shine America President Eden Gaha. Before joining Shine America, Franklin served as Head of Programming for Shine Australia, overseeing such Australian series as The Biggest Loser, MasterChef and Junior MasterChef, The Renovators and In Their Footsteps.
Franklin got his start as a television producer in Australia, working for the Nine Network on a number of lifestyle series including, Animal Hospital. He later moved to the U.K., where he worked on a variety of shows for Endemol, Fremantle and Shine, including as the show-runner for the BBC1 hit series Changing Rooms and later as the original producer of The Biggest Loser in the U.K.
In 2005, he was named Head of Factual Programming for Fremantle Australia, where he oversaw the launch of The Biggest Loser, MasterChef, The Apprentice and other series in Australia.
After departing Fremantle Media Australia in 2010, Franklin consulted with Shine Group and travelled as an ambassador for MasterChef around the world, launching the series in India, France and here in the U.S.
Franklin was born in Tasmania and began his career in the TV industry there, working in local production as an editor and cameraman.
