David Tennant Cast In FOX Event Series "Broadchurch" (Working Title)

David Tennant, star of the U.K. hit crime drama “Broadchurch,” and one of the most beloved incarnations of Britain’s popular science fiction hero “Dr. Who” in the venerable series of the same name, has been cast in FOX’s new event series BROADCHURCH (working title).

The U.S. version will star Tennant as an American detective who is the lead male investigator on the case of a shocking murder that puts a small town under scrutiny.   Set in an American town, BROADCHURCH (wt) follows the tragic and mysterious death of a young boy found dead on an idyllic beach surrounded by rocks and a jutting cliff-face, from where he may have fallen. Although the cause of his death remains unsolved, the picturesque seaside town where the tragedy occurred is at the heart of a major police investigation and a nationwide media frenzy.

Dan Futterman (Academy Award nominated for “Capote,” “In Treatment,” upcoming film “Foxcatcher”) and Anya Epstein (“In Treatment,” “Homicide”) have signed on as executive producers and showrunners for the FOX series.

Produced in partnership with Shine America in association with Kudos and Imaginary Friends, and to be executive-produced by the original series’ creator, Chris Chibnall (“Dr. Who,” “Camelot”), the gripping crime series is scheduled to begin filming in January, for broadcast during the 2014-2015 season.  Chibnall will write the premiere episode of BROACHURCH (wt) and executive-produce the series with Shine America’s Carolyn Bernstein (“The Bridge”), Jane Featherstone (“The Hour,” “Utopia”) from drama producers Kudos, Futterman and Epstein.  The series will be distributed by Shine International.

David Tennant is represented by UTA and Independent Talent in the UK. Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein are represented by UTA.
